Guide for Authors:

  • Authors of all types of articles should be aware of the following guidelines when submitting to Ahram Canadian Dental Journal.
  • All manuscripts submitted to ACDJ must be submitted online at: ACDJ@acu.edu.eg
  • Only original scientific research, review articles and case reports will be accepted for publication. A careful review process will be undertaken with each submitted manuscript to ensure there is no plagiarism and that the work is accepted only to the highest scientific and ethical standards. Before submitting manuscripts, they must be thoroughly checked for plagiarism.
  • Manuscripts will be written in English Only. The authors are invited to perform accurate language editing. If English is not your native language, please submit your manuscript to a professional language editor. Manuscripts that do not conform to the guidelines will not be considered for revision.
  • A cover letter addressed to the editor-in-chief should be submitted with the manuscript. Additionally, all authors should submit the author declaration form signed by all authors.
  • Avoid the use of difficult words, and keep the sentences as short as possible. The text should be as clear and concise as possible.
  • Candidates should express their own findings in the past tense.
  • The present tense should be used when referring to existing knowledge, or where the candidate is referring to what is concluded.
  • The change of tense clarifies the distinction between the candidate’s contribution and what is already
  • Always write in the third person and avoid pronouns such as “you” and “I”. 

MANUSCRIPT SUBMISSION 

  • After submission, you will receive an e-mail to confirm receipt of your manuscript.
  • Blind review, all manuscripts submitted to the ACDJ will be reviewed by two experts in the field. Papers that do not meet the general objectives and scope of the journal will be returned immediately without revision. If the article is rejected by one of the reviewers, it will be sent to a third reviewer. The reviewers' names will not be disclosed to the author.
  • Main manuscripts should be uploaded as Word (.doc) files (not write-protected). The text file must contain the entire manuscript including title page, abstract, clinical reference, main text, references, acknowledgment, statement of the source of funding and any potential conflict of interest, tables, and figure legends, but no embedded figures.
  • The cover page, abstract, text, summary, figure legends, and tables should be combined into a single Word document. Figures should be submitted as a separate document.         

Guidelines for Manuscript writing

Title Page:

         The title must be concise. It consists of a maximum of 75 characters (including spaces), 5-10 keywords, complete names of institutions for each author, and the name, address, telephone number, fax number and e-mail address for the corresponding author. Titles do not normally include numbers, acronyms, abbreviations or punctuation. The title should include sufficient detail for indexing purposes but be general enough for readers outside the field to appreciate what the paper is about.

 ACKNOWLEDGMENTS(if applicable). 

   Authors are required to report all sources of support for their project or study, including but not limited to: grant funds, commercial sources, funds from a contributors’ institution. Under acknowledgments, please specify contributors to the article other than the authors accredited.

Abstract:

    An abstract of 300 words should be supplied briefly mentioning the introduction, objectives, methodology, results and conclusions of the work. It should not contain abbreviations or references.

FIGURE AND TABLE:

     Tables, Figures, and Figure Legends: Tables should be kept plain with the single ruling, in black and white. Tables with their legends should be provided at the end of the text after the references. The tables along with their number should be cited at the relevant place in the text

       Figure files should be sent as separate files.  GIF, JPEG, PICT are acceptable for submission. Figures should be arranged in the order they would appear in the final version. Unnecessary figures and panels of figures should be avoided.

Resolution

  • In order for a figure to be used in publication, its Digital Image File must have the required resolution when it is created. The resolution cannot be raised after the original image is made. Attempting to do so (for example, with Adobe Photoshop’s “Image Size” command) results in the addition of artificial pixels that distort the image and lower its sharpness.
  • Halftones and color images should be submitted at a minimum of 300 dpi (resolution).
  • Line illustrations should be submitted at 600 dpi (resolution).
  • Save figures as either TIFF or JPEG files.
  • Black and white art must be submitted as grayscale—not RGB.
  • Do NOT submit PowerPoint, PDF, Bitmap, or Excel figure.

Statistical analysis

     All methods of statistical analysis and tests should be clearly described. Complex statistical methods should be duly referenced. 

Main manuscript  of Original Research Articles  

       The manuscript should be double-spaced and written in Times New Roman, font size 12 in A4 size. Margins 2.5 cm from all four sides Page numbers included at bottom.

The entire manuscript should not exceed 6,000 words including the following sections: Introduction, Materials and methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion and References.

A maximum of 6 figures and 3 tables will be allowed. Any additional supplemental data can be submitted apart as “supplementary material”.

Introduction: should be focused, outlining the origins of the study and not summarize the results; exhaustive literature reviews are not appropriate. It should close with the explicit statement of the specific aims of the investigation.

Material and Methods: it must contain sufficient detail with references cited so that all clinical trials and experiments reported can be fully reproduced.

Results: Present your results in a logical sequence in the text, tables, and illustrations, giving the main or most important findings. Do not repeat in the text all the data in the tables or illustrations; emphasize or summarize only important observations. Extra- or supplementary materials and technical detail can be placed in an appendix where it will be accessible but will not interrupt the flow of the text. Avoid drawing inferences that belong to the discussion.

Discussion:

It includes summary of key findings (primary outcome measures, secondary outcome measures, results as they relate to a prior hypothesis); repetition should be avoided. The discussion section should end with a brief conclusion and a comment on the potential clinical relevance of the findings. Statements and interpretations of the data should be appropriately supported by original references.

Conclusions:

It summarizes the entire work and summarize the key supporting ideas which discussed throughout the work.

References

References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text (not in alphabetic order).  The references cited in the text should be after punctuation marks, in superscript with square bracket.

References to papers appearing in journals should include: 

  1. The last names and initials of all authors (the use of et al. is Unacceptable in the reference list).
  2. The year of publication (this may be placed at the end).
  3. The full title of the paper.
  4. The abbreviated title of the journal.
  5. The volume number.

  References to books and monograms should include:

  1. The last names and initials of all authors (the use of et al. is unacceptable in the reference list).
  2. The year of publication (this may be placed at the end).
  3. The full title of the book.
  4. The number of the edition unless it is the first.
  5.    The number of the page or pages quoted from.
  6.    The name of the publisher.
  7.    The city or cities of publication.

Review Article

Generally, review articles will be focused on reviews of basic and clinical science related to all aspects of dentistry.

Word limit: 4000 words maximum not including references, tables and figures

Abstract: Unstructured abstract (250 words maximum)

Text Structure: Introduction, Body and References. Figures: The number of figures should not exceed  6 figures (figures resolution 300 dpi). 

Case reports

 Case reports will assure all aspects of clinical dentistry. It should be concise and occupy no more than three Journal pages.

Word Limit: 4000 words maximum not including references, tables and figures

Abstract: Unstructured Abstract (250 words maximum)

Text Structure: Introduction, Case Description and Results, Discussion, Summary and conclusion and References. The number of figures should not exceed 6 figures (figures resolution 300 dpi)
